In Rio, Jewel was one of the worlds last two Spixs Macaws. Known as the Gem of the Forest, Jewel spent her days carelessly fluttering around the jungle and engaging in impromptu song and dance numbers. Free as a bird, you might have called her! And everything was going fine until that fateful day when she was captured in an attempt to save her species. Enter Blu, a shy, socially awkward house pet who couldnt even fly, let alone dance the samba — but the worlds only other member of Jewels species.
Ever heard the rejection line, Not if you were the last man on earth? Well, Jewel is one of the first people (or birds, to be more specific) to say it and actually mean it. Little did she know she could change her mind about poor Blu, but only after a wild adventure full of mischievous monkeys, a cannibal cockatoo, and one slobbery bulldog. But she ultimately did, setting the stage for some of the cutest baby birds in movie history.
