Cacti are super smart plants! They’ve evolved over the years to protect their nifty water supplies with sharp spines. This cactus, however, has re-evolved to suit its environment. Its surface and spines aren’t dangerous at all: Instead, they seem more likely to cause delighted “awww!” noises and prompt onlookers to give the cactus a big squeeze. Scientists who study this phenomenon are calling it the “irresistable cuteness mechanism.”
