But back in 1915, there were all sorts of versions of stop signs depending on what part of the country you lived in. Can you imagine trying to break at a yellow warning or yielding at an orange and black one? It must have been a nightmare. Luckily, in 1922, theAmerican Association of Highway Officials, or AASHO, standardized the stop sign we know for the whole country.
