Medusa is a fairly well-known character in Greek mythology. One of the three Gorgon sisters, she is most known for her hair made of snakes and her ability to turn anyone who looks at her to stone. Although ancient Greek artists imagined her as a monster, most later works depict her as beautiful (other than her hideous hair). Her story has been retold many times over the years, and usually, shes painted as a horrifying creature that Perseus is a hero for defeating. However, other versions are more sympathetic to her plight.
